Byron Bay Markets Guide: What’s On and When

Byron Bay does markets the way some towns do football: passionately, weekly and with the whole community involved. Whether you are hunting fresh local produce, handmade ceramics or just a very good breakfast with live music, here is your guide to every market in and around Byron Bay.

Byron Farmers Market — Every Thursday

7am–11am, Butler Street Reserve, Byron Bay

The week’s anchor. More than 70 local farmers and producers sell everything from just-picked subtropical fruit to sourdough, macadamias, flowers and small-batch coffee. Come early for the best of it, stay for breakfast from the food stalls, and you will likely catch a busker or two. This is where Byron’s famous food culture starts.

Byron Bay Community Market — First Sunday of the Month

Jonson Street and Railway Park, town centre

On the first Sunday of each month the centre of town closes to traffic and fills with around 300 stalls: local art, handmade clothing, jewellery, woodwork, street food and a stage of live music. It is equal parts shopping trip and street festival, and very Byron.

Bangalow Farmers Market — Every Saturday

7am–11am, Piccabeen Park, Bangalow

Fifteen minutes inland, the Saturday morning ritual of the hinterland. Smaller and a touch more intimate than the Byron market, with superb produce and the heritage village’s cafes a short stroll away for a post-shop coffee.

Bangalow Market — Fourth Sunday of the Month

The hinterland’s big community market day — over 200 stalls of craft, vintage, plants and food spill through the showgrounds under the camphor laurels.

Byron Twilight Market — Summer Saturdays

Railway Park, October to April

On summer Saturday evenings, Railway Park glows with lantern-lit stalls of local art and craft, street eats and live tunes — a lovely slow start to a Byron night out.

Byron Beachside Market — Seasonal

Four times a year (January, Easter, July and September school holidays), the foreshore of Main Beach hosts a full day of coastal market browsing with the ocean as a backdrop. Check our events page for the next date.

Market-Hopper Tips

Bring cash for the smaller stalls (though most take cards now), a tote bag or basket, and arrive early — parking near the Thursday market fills by 8am in holiday season. Dogs on leads are welcome at most outdoor markets. And do not plan a big breakfast beforehand: the food stalls are half the point.

Stay Close to the Action

Stay in or near the town centre and every market is a stroll or short drive away. The Sunseeker — Byron’s beloved retro motel turned boutique stay — sits on the edge of town, an easy roll into market mornings. Find more options on our accommodation page or search all Byron Bay stays here.
