Flying to
Byron Bay

With multiple flights per day into three different airports, a plethora of car rentals, reliable shuttle services, as well as a pristine coastline to drive along, getting to the most easterly point in Australia; Byron Bay, has never been easier to navigate — no matter where in the world you’re coming from.

Ballina Byron Gateway Airport (BNK) is located a quick 30-minute drive (22km) south of Byron Bay and is the closest airport to the bay. Despite being a small, regional airport with just one terminal, up to 58 flights are offered per week from Sydney, Melbourne & Newcastle on Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Rex Airlines and Fly Pelican (Newcastle service).

Gold Coast Airport (OOL) is conveniently located just across the NSW/QLD border, 45-minutes (55km) north of Byron Bay in Coolangatta. As a medium-sized airport, over 420 flights are welcomed per week from all major Australian cities and some regional areas. Direct international flights from Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Japan, Auckland, Christchurch, Queenstown, and Wellington are available, as well as connecting flights to Europe and the USA.

Brisbane Airport (BNE) is located 2-hours by car (148km) north of Byron Bay. The largest airport of the three, Brisbane Airport offers access to Byron Bay from almost anywhere in the world. Being QLD’s major international airport, flights are available from 52 Australian destinations and 32 international destinations on all domestic and most international carriers. For this reason, transiting via Brisbane is often the most convenient option for travellers to the region.

Shuttle Services are a quick and reliable option for transport to your accommodation in Byron Bay when you arrive at the airport, direct from the terminal. We highly recommend pre-booking Steve’s Transport for affordable door to door transfers from Ballina Byron Gateway, Gold Coast or Brisbane Airport. Please note, all shuttle services do need to be reserved in advance.

Take the car for an East Coast
Road Trip

With a distance of 767 kilometers, the drive along the Pacific Highway offers ample opportunity to immerse yourself in the scenic beauty of Australia's east coast.

Gather your friends or family who are also attending the wedding and turn the journey into a shared experience filled with laughter, stories, and unforgettable moments.

Take advantage of the numerous charming country and coastal towns that dot the route, each offering its own unique charm and attractions. From quaint cafes serving freshly brewed coffee to picturesque lookout points offering panoramic views of the coastline, there's something to captivate every traveler's heart.

Getting Around the
Byron Region

Getting around Byron Bay is easy with a variety of hire car and taxi services available to choose from in the area.

Hire Cars:

All major vehicle hire companies have service desks and are available at Ballina Byron Gateway, Gold Coast or Brisbane Airport and we suggest booking in advance to avoid any delays upon arrival. As public transport is very limited in Byron Bay, having a hire car can definitely be an advantage in Byron Bay giving you the opportunity to explore the beautiful hinterland and beaches during your stay.

Taxis:

Taxis do not need to be pre-booked, however, we would recommend doing so in peak seasons as the airports can be very busy (especially Ballina-Byron!). We would also only suggest booking a taxi to Byron Bay from Ballina or the Gold Coast, as Brisbane is a little far.
